Dior-Dreamland: V&A's Christian Dior Exhibition

This post is about the popular exhibition 'Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams' at the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington, London. A couple of weeks ago I had a wander around this magical Dior-dreamland...

Slightly concerned that it would not live up to the hype, 'Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams' did not disappoint. It is a visually stunning exhibition about the founder of one of the world's top fashion houses, Christian Dior, which showcases rare Haute Couture garments designed by Dior and his successors

Dior's fascination with flora and gardens is threaded throughout the exhibition. Delicate paper flowers adorn the ceiling of one section, while the endless white toiles from garments-past are stacked up towards the gallery ceiling in another (see image just below)Each section of the exhibition has a distinct theme, but often returns to Dior's floral leitmotif. There is an ethereal, other-worldly quality that befits the exhibition title of 'Designer of Dreams'. It is honestly one of the prettiest exhibition designs that I have had the pleasure of seeing.

This exhibition is very popular (and for good reason), so it can get very busy. If you want to visit, the exhibition is open until 1st September 2019 at V&A South Kensington. Tickets have sold out unfortunately (although unsurprisingly), but the V&A release a number of tickets each day on the door on a first come, first served basis. So be sure to be there bright and early to secure your spot in the queue!

Top tip: For anyone wanting to visit V&A exhibitions that have sold out tickets, go get your place in the queue to buy them on the door well before 10am opening (the earlier the better), then send someone on a coffee/croissant-run! Or if you are on your own, grab it on your way to the museum - there are lots of lovely cafes on Exhibition Road (the end towards South Kensington tube). This way you can enjoy some brekkie whilst waiting outside the beautiful V&A building.

P.S. If you are really desperate to get your hands on tickets for exhibitions that have sold out, one option is to sign up for annual membership.
